Fruit of the Spirit: True Love

Posted by admin

Naturally, we as human beings yearn to be loved even from the time that we are born, we depend for security and nourishment. And just how we are loved we become affectionate in return.

When we understand and realize that God’s love for us is unconditional, no matter who we are, what we did or where we have been. His  love brings security in our lives and it helps us to resonate His very love from us towards others, no matter how difficult other people maybe. Just as we do not deserve His love, we are called to love others who may not deserve it as well.

Basing from this, would you love less when you know that you are very loved more?
Here are three characteristics of the kind of love that we should be showing to our neighbors:

1. Love is a decision, not a feeling.
“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome…”-1 John 5:3

2. Love is giving, not getting.
“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12

3. Love is sacrificing, not self-seeking.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”-John 3:16

“To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”-Mark 12:33
